What we do

PramDepot is an arts-led recycling project providing baby boxes filled with high quality recycled baby clothes and equipment to vulnerable new mums and their babies in London.

💞Each box is beautifully arranged and presented as a gift from PramDepot and our community💞

Please note: we do not take self-referrals. Click here for more information about finding support

Who we support

As a voluntary organisation, we believe it is important not to replace support that government or government-contracted agencies have a duty to provide. For this reason, we focus our support on pregnant women who are not entitled to receive support from other places.

  • No recourse to public funds: women who are denied access to services and benefits due to their immigration status. People in this situation are usually destitute and have no way to access essential items for their baby.
  • Fleeing domestic violence: women who have recently fled abuse, leaving behind all their belongings. It can often take several weeks or months to access benefits, leaving people in this situation without any money to purchase essential items for their baby.
  • Leaving prison: women who have recently left prison and are rebuilding their lives. It can often take several weeks or months to access benefits, leaving people in this situation without any money to purchase essential items for their baby.

The Emergency Baby Box

Our Emergency Baby Box contains all the essentials a new mum will need for the first three months of her baby’s life.

This includes:

  • steriliser
  • breast pump
  • sling
  • clothes
  • nappies
  • wet wipes
  • bottles
  • bibs
  • muslins
  • breast pads
  • maternity pads
  • hospital hygiene bag with toiletries
  • blankets

and more!

Once it is unpacked, the box can be used along with the mattress and sheets provided as a safe place for the baby to sleep. Many of the women we support are living in very small spaces and are not able to access or store a cot or Moses basket, so a baby box can be useful alternative.

The Mini Baby Box

We provide Mini Baby Boxes for women who are in Home Office accommodation. People in Home Office accommodation are entitled to access certain baby items such as sleeping and feeding equipment from their accommodation provider. As a voluntary organisation, we believe it is important not to replace support that government or government-contracted agencies have a duty to provide. Therefore, our Mini Baby Boxes only include additional items that women cannot get from their accommodation provide.

This includes:

  • baby clothes
  • blankets
  • sling
  • toy
  • toiletries

Buggies

We provide buggies for pregnant women who meet our criteria and live in Haringey. All the buggies are pre-loved and donated to PramDepot by our local community.

Growing the circular economy in Haringey

A core part of our work is reducing waste in Haringey and contributing to the circular economy. We are the only baby bank in Haringey, which means there are very few options for Haringey residents to ensure the baby items they no longer need are reused rather than placed in landfill.

Textiles is one of the most environmentally damaging industries in existence, with overproduction of clothing contributing to carbon emissions, water overuse and pollution, and harmful labour practices. Baby and children’s clothes often have a particularly short lifespan. Similarly, baby and children’s toys are often used for a short amount of time, with 28% of parents admitting to throwing away toys that were in good working order (according to a British Heart Foundation survey). PramDepot takes donations of clothes, toys, buggies, high chairs, cots and lots of other items. Some of these are used in our Baby Boxes and the rest are passed on to our partner organisation, Little Village, to be distributed to families in need.

We take thousands of donated baby items each year, and get to know our local community at the same time!

Referral organisations

We support mums through a number of referral organisations, including:

It takes a village to raise a child and we rely on our community of supporters to help us do what we do. Find out more about how to support us

If you would like to find out more about creating a referral route for your organisation, please email hello@pramdepot.com

Unfortunately we cannot take self-referrals from individuals. If you are pregnant and seeking support, go to our get support page to find out which organisations may be able to support you.
